Young Social Innovators of the Year 2016 – Portmarnock Community School with their project ‘Global Citizens Mapping the Future’[/caption]

Students from Portmarnock Community School, Co. Dublin have been named Young Social Innovators of the Year 2016 at YSI’s annual awards ceremony, hosted by RTE’s Miriam O’Callaghan at Citywest Hotel and Convention Centre, Dublin, today for their project Global Citizens Mapping the Future. The winning team from the Step Up Challenge, continued to develop a mapping community that can help developing countries to determine land boundaries. The team worked to digitally create an online map of Lesotho and have uploaded street photos through an app. 454 youth-led social innovation projects were created by young people all over Ireland this year.

Over 6,500 students have been involved throughout the year, advocating for, and actively creating positive change in their communities through social innovation projects, with 6,000 students attending the Awards and Showcase event today.
